I Don’t Do It For You
I don’t do it for you I do it for me. How many times have you had to remind yourself to put yourself first? Well, I can say I most typically have never thought to think of myself first. I generally have always thought of others and their needs. There were only a couple of moments in between the years where I said screw it and did what I wanted while feeling the disapproval of others around me. Sometimes you’ll upset people for valuing yourself. Isn’t that something?
There have also been times when I found myself tripping on my ego, my needs, and the intensity of my emotions not regarding how my behavior might be hurting someone. While I can feel intensely, that is no excuse to ever treat someone in any way less than they deserve. I’ve been on both sides of the coin. I’m just happy I have observed, accepted, and learned. Some people do not get remotely that far if at all.
My actions moving forward in life will be more intentional. I can’t base my decisions on what people will think, say, or judge me for. I can’t commit to long-lasting actions that make others happy but make me feel trapped and miserable. When I think about it too long it upsets me, but I also have time to course-correct my life and not make the same mistakes. There’s no use in dwelling on what cannot be changed. Easier said than done, I would know.
Well, I hope you can think about the ways you put yourself first in your life. And if you’re not there yet, then I hope you can find the confidence to start today. Time is precious and we never know when our last day will be. It’s never too late to start. Be selfish this year. Consider your needs and feelings first. Remain sensitive to others, but set firm boundaries. It’s not easy, but it has to be done!
Here’s to putting ourselves first, and basing decisions on our needs, goals, and happiness. You deserve it.
Thank you for reading, until next time,
